A/N:
This was the first story I wrote in the Saiyuki fandom. Just a short, sweet thing about my favourite pairing, whose potential I saw very early on during my first read of the series. 360 words.

‘I must be getting soft,’ thought Sanzo. He couldn’t recall at which point those huge brown eyes had weakened his resolve, but it wasn’t like Sanzo could ignore it any longer. He had almost given in there for a moment. Almost. How irritating.

“No,” he said firmly, staring hard at Goku and then looking down at his last meat pie. Goku hadn’t said anything, for probably the first time ever, but he really didn’t need to. He had scooted closer and was now sitting directly in front of Sanzo, his knees drawn up to his chest and arms wrapped around them, eyes following every movement of Sanzo’s hand as he brought his food up to his mouth. It would have almost been comical if it hadn’t been so bloody annoying.

Ignoring Goku until he went away was a decidedly futile move, Sanzo had learned long ago.

Damned monkey.

Sanzo wasn’t sure if it was a trick of the light or just his imagination, but he thought he had detected the barest hint of a smile playing on Goku’s lips. His eyes, big and round as saucers, spoke only of hunger. Of want.

It was really unnerving in a way.

Exasperatedly, Sanzo made a sound low in his throat and spoke quietly so as not to rouse Gojyo and Hakkai.

“Oh, all right.” He tossed the remainder of his meat pie in Goku’s direction. “Just stop keeping on.”

The pie was snatched out of the air and stuffed straight into Goku’s mouth. “’anks, ‘anzo!” he exclaimed, somehow managing to talk, eat and grin all at the same time.

Cursing under his breath, more at himself than anything, Sanzo had a nasty feeling he had just been played. Not only that, but he had been manipulated by none other than Goku. He started to wonder if perhaps the monkey was more cunning than he let on. Did he have the mind to use his large, expressive eyes to get what he wanted? Either that, or Sanzo really was losing it.

Next time, he thought, he would just tell Goku to piss off and bother one of the others.

Next time.
