multifandom recommendations

Here is a selection of multi-fandom recommendations, sorted by fandom. There aren't that many here right now, but please do check back - I'm constantly building this page. If there are any broken links I'd really appreciate an email about it, so I can fix or change them.

WARNING: by linking to these stories I am showing visitors to my website the kinds of things I enjoy reading. I am not, in any way, saying that everyone is going to like these as well. All links have warnings and pairings next to them. Please do not click anything you don't like the sound of! I will not be held responsible for any trauma because someone didn't heed the categories and warnings. *g* But seriously, use your discretion when browsing, yeah? Use common sense and all that.

Disclaimer: none of the authors linked to here are affiliated with my website. I'm merely pointing out material I have enjoyed and continue to enjoy reading. As far as I know, none of the following authors own the characters/universes they base their fan fiction on - rather, they are showing their appreciation of the original material and creating tributes to it, just like I do with my fics. If the above information changes at any point (haha!) I will amend this page as necessary.

Saiyuki recommendations

Assumptions Unlimited, by Ciceqi (aka Sleeps With Coyotes). Sanzo/Goku, Sanzo/Seiten Taisei, implied Hakkai/Gojyo, R. Oh my, this fic was an absolute delight for a hardcore S/G shipper like me. It's funny and hot, and almost sweet in places. The basic premise is that during some rather, uh, strenuous sex Goku loses his limiter and becomes Seiten Taisei. However, instead of turning all fighty, he seems to be enjoying the current physical activities and wants more. An awesome, highly entertaining read. Quote: 'Time slowed in that moment as Sanzo pulled his mouth from Goku's flushed skin, raised his head, and found gold eyes devouring him, slit pupils glittering by lamplight.'

Taare Tuttaare Ture Svaahaa, by geekerypokery. Sanzo/Seiten Taisei Son Goku, hard R. Warning for very dubious consent, rough sex. This fic fed my Sanzo/Seiten Taisei craving so nicely. Good, solid writing and an interesting set up - Sanzo is trying to help Goku learn to control his Seiten Taisei side, however, since Goku is all grown up now he's a lot stronger than Sanzo anticipates. The smut is also very well done and so hot. Quote: 'So much time to think, to wonder, even with a monster straddling his lap and riding the crests of his hips, his breath quickening and taking on voice as it brushed past Sanzo's cheek.'

Monkey vs. Robot, by geekerypokery. Sanzo/Goku, R. Another rec for this author - I simply adore their writing. This is a short fic, and much lighter than the one I linked to above. Basically, Goku is on a mission to seduce Sanzo, but it's not the most easy task (ha!). Funny and sweet and very hot. Quote: 'And he was just about to get to Sanzo's throat when Sanzo turned his head and Looked at Goku, down through the lenses, and, well, that kind of Look would wither just about anything.'

Adversary, by D-chan. Homura/Goku, PG. This fic was recommended to me by a friend, to whom I am very grateful because she introduced me to D-chan's stories. Ever since watching the anime, I've been interested in the dynamic between these two characters, because of their similarities, their conflicts, and their strange mutual respect for each other. This fic puts them in a situation where they are forced to spend time together, not fighting (at least, not physically). For a reasonably short fic, the development between them is handled so subtly and smoothly it's flawless, in my opinion. Goku's frustration with his own feelings is a delight to read, and it's great to find an In Character Homura who is not painted as a lecherous rapist. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed. Quote: 'Goku watched as Homura's arms finally, slowly drifted down to his sides. Looking around, it seemed that whatever Homura had done -- put up a barrier, a wall, whatever -- had protected them from the avalanche. The white stuff seemed to have landed solid and compact in a sort of dome shape around them. The space was fairly small.'

Too Much to Say, by Jain. Hakkai/Gojyo, NC-17. This is a shortish fic, but so sweet and angsty and perfectly in character for these two. Jealous Hakkai is not too over-done, and wibbling Gojyo is a delight to read. The build up is steady and understated, and the ending made me feel so happy after I finished reading. Definitely not to be missed for the H/G fans. Quote: 'Gojyo kissed like Goku ate food: with fervor and passion and a deep, heartfelt appreciation.'

The Usual, by maxw3llsmage. Kougaiji/Zakuro, PG. What struck me so much about this short fic wasn't just the pairing, which I've never seen before, but how incredibly well thought out the backstory was, and how beautifully it was written. I am a huge Zakuro dork and would love there to be more fics about him - not just those crack fics where he's used as the comic relief. This hit that craving so very well. Quote: 'Zakuro chuckled at that. “I suppose you’re right. They gave me quite a run for my money last time I ran into them.” Almost involuntarily he rotated his left shoulder, wincing slightly at the still-tender wound. “All this fear-me-I’m-an-evil-bastard stuff really doesn’t work for me, y’know?”'

Yozakura, by teru_bozu_ebi. Goujun/Kenren, NC-17. Gaiden fic, warning for a tiny bit of blood-play, though it's not too heavy. The reason I'm reccing this is because it's so hot and gorgeous. The voices are very well written in my opinion, with strong, compelling characterisations, and an interesting dynamic. Usually Tenpou is used as mediator in threesome fics, though this is proof that Goujun/Kenren can work, and work damn well. Quote: '“Shit, I’m in deep trouble, aren’t I.” Kenren returned the smile with a faltering one of his own. Goujun sensed the concern under the nonchalance. The man seemed somewhat lost.'

Vow, by TJ Dragonblade. Goujun/Tenpou, R. Warning for very mild bloodplay, but it's nothing too heavy in my opinion. This one is so aching and carefully constructed. The Goujun characterisation is fantastic, not ignoring his base instincts as a dragon, and playing on his duties as a commander vs his wants and needs - the main one being Tenpou. The unresolved sexual tension is so thick I was squirming while reading this. Beautiful fic. Quote: 'He lifted a hand, slowly stroking through Tenpou's hair once, twice, the first they had truly touched in decades, and Tenpou went perfectly still, breath bated.'

Spun Out, by Ravengirl. Gojyo/Sanzo, NC-17. Ravengirl is one of my favourite 53 authors, who just seems to hit the nail on the head of the pairing for me. Not only that, but her writing is a really sumptuous read, even when it's fast and dirty and brutal, and often leaves me lingering on lines and paragraphs for ages. This fic is red hot and excellently characterised, imo. Quote: “God. You’re in a bitch of a mood for a guy who just shot his load.” Pushing himself up by his hands, Gojyo props his elbows on the ground and mouths a damp line along Sanzo’s throat.'

Seven Sinners, by Eyesofshinigami. Ikkou + war gods, PG-13. This one drew me in the moment I began reading. It's a second person story that's brimming with evocative language, applying one of the seven deadly sins to each character. The imagery and writing is gorgeous. 'That vanity is what keeps you going, after all, it’s what you live for. It’s what shuts your heart and closes your eyes, tunneling your vision to a single purpose.'

Accidentally in Love, by Cheydancer. Gojyo/Goku, PG-13. I'm not even going to say this is a guilty pleasure pairing, because I feel absolutely no guilt whatsoever fangirling it. This fic is a prime example why, and I highly recommend it if you're looking for something utterly gorgeous, IC, and fun. The writing is strong and superb too, imo. Quote: 'Not to be outdone, Goku made a grab for the dish, but Gojyo held on tight, red eyes flashing a warning. "Back off, monkey," Gojyo growled around a mouthful.'

Harry Potter recommendations

Eudaimonia (Happiness), by Zillah. Snape/Harry, Snape/Bill, PG-13. This is one of my favourite H/Sn fics, one that I have been going back to re-read for years now. It's got a very quiet, calm atmosphere to it that I find soothing. The idea itself is extremely clever, but I don't want to give away spoilers. The build up and changes in the relationship between Harry and Snape is handled sparsely, but it's not unsatisfying - the language and imagery is rich enough. In a way it almost feels like an already established relationship, though there's no indication of anything happening between them before. In this Snape is more tolerant of Harry, much more caring that you might expect, but it works well for the story - and for me. Unusual, quite short, and a really good read. Quote: 'Before Snape can convince himself that he has to go find Harry, Harry appears with a bright smile on his face. His troop of creatures follows him and Harry hurries over to Snape, brushing sand out of his hair at the same time.'

Back in Black, by Kalena. Snape/Sirius, NC-17. Category/Warnings: male pregnancy, some dark themes. I'm not the world's biggest mpreg fan, but on occasion I will read it if the premise looks good. This is the first story I read of Kalena's, and boy did it get me hooked on her amazing writing. Her prose is very clear and rich with description and emotion, and I found her characterisations of Sirius and Snape utterly compelling. Novella-length. Summary quote: 'Sirius Black is back from the dead. He's not alone.'

The Black Road, by Guede Mazaka. Harry/Lucius, Harry/Snape, Harry/Draco, some Sirius/Snape, NC-17 overall, I'd say, though each part has its own rating. Darkfic! Very violent, very dark, angsty, hilarious, AU, features character death and torture, and did I mention it's hilarious? Some of the most superb writing I've encountered in HP fandom, and one of the most original takes on dark!Harry I've seen. This fic is long, broken up into sixteen chapters, and if you love darkfic it's well worth setting an afternoon aside for. I can't even pick a good line to quote - they're all good! "Wouldn’t be thinking of that, if I were you," said Harry Potter’s voice. A cool, rounded object lightly touched the back of Lucius’ sore neck. Then it pressed down and twisted so something sharp caught at the skin there, and Lucius understood what had happened to his cane. "Mr. Malfoy."'

Bleach recommendations

In The End, A Dream, by Katilara. Ichigo/Renji, PG. This is a lovely, subtle ficlet, in which Ichigo has lost his focus and drive, and Renji decides he needs some sense beaten into him. *g* Although not overly slashy, it's set in a shower and there are strong hints - just enough to keep a rabid I/R shipper like me satisfied. But really, this story works very well as an angsty look at defeatist Ichigo. The characterisation works very well for me, especially as this was written around the time of episodes 114/115 of the anime. Quote: 'It was all too heavy. The look in Rukia’s eyes, the expectations of the Gotei 13, the weight of the hollow inside of him as it fought to be free.'

Finding Warmth, by Akuni. Renji/Ichigo, PG-15 for language and sexuality. Akuni understands my love for this pairing well, and writes them brilliantly. She's done a lot of one-shots, some of which I've yet had time to read, sadly, but this one stands out in my mind as a favourite of hers (even though it's not porny, haha!) because it's beautiful. Written for a caught-in-a-blizzard scenario challenge, she managed to weave in so many sweet details, and shows a slightly different side to their relationship. Gorgeous stuff. Quote: '"Er, ok, I’ll just… sit here then." He scooted over to sit beside the shinigami. "I may still decide to kill you and eat you if you get any more annoying, though," Ichigo warned as he pressed their shoulders together.

Living Again, by Akuni. Renji/Ichigo (with backstory Ichigo/Orihime and Renji/Rukia), R. Drama, angst, hurt/comfort, character death. I am a self-confessed non-fan of IchiOri, although it's handled very well in this and it didn't bother me in the slightest. Plus, Akuni has the guys' voices down so well, their grief is entirely believable, and there are so many vivid moments leading up to a gorgeous resolution. An aching, lovely, bittersweet read. Quote: 'Something cold fluttered in Ichigo’s chest; he swallowed, but his mouth had gone very dry. “Shit,” he swore softly. Then, quite deliberately, he leaned in close, tilted his head to duck under the long, loose hair, and bit Renji on the neck.'

Kyou Kara Maou recommendations

Tadoritsuku, by Scrawlwall. Conrad/Yuuri, PG-13. This is a glorious set of one sentence mini-fics, that all tie in together and work more or less chronologically. Sweet, poignant moments, beautifully handled characterisation, and cameos from many of the other characters. I adore. Quote: 'Yuuri protested every time Conrad swore to give up his arm, chest, or life for the Maou - but the day Conrad changed the deal to his heart and soul Yuuri stopped for a moment, smiled, and agreed in kind.'

And Everything In Between, by Kameko. Gwendal/Yuuri, PG-15. Angst, sort of one-sided. This fic strikes all my angst chords well, and it's beautifully crafted. It leaves me hurting and aching for Gwendal. This pairing is rarely done, and even more rarely done so well. Quote: 'It's the closest Gwendal's ever been to falling in love, and it's ruining the careful order of his life. It all used to be so easy.' Highly recommended if you like rarer KKM pairings!

A Taste of Sunshine, by Paxwolf. Conrad/Yuuri, R for violence and pain. Hurt/comfort fic, so gorgeously handled. What hit me about this story first and foremost, apart from the lovely, detailed ConYuu moments, was that it wasn't at all rushed, which is something that all too easily happens in action fic. The comfort near the end is sweet and angsty and perfect. A really satisfying, smooth read. Quote: 'Conrad had to swallow twice before he could make any more words come. "No, Yuri ..." he said, damning the weakness in his voice. "You'll never ... lose me."'

Yami no Matsuei recommendations

A Sense of Shadow, by Ravenbell. Tatsumi/Hisoka/Tsuzuki, NC-17. This story is locked, which means you will need a LiveJournal and to join the yaoi_challenge community to read it! One word for you: shadowbondage. Such a neat, extremely hot idea, in which we get to see the real Tatsumi. The threesome is an already established relationship, although it's still quite fresh. There's one more barrier between Hisoka and Tatsumi, but it's about to be broken down. Highly enjoyable, strongly written and so sexy. Quote: 'There was a darkness there beyond any of the shadows in the bed, an unbearably deep intensity that made Hisoka’s heart beat faster in his chest. Tatsumi made love to Tsuzuki with naked want and lust and need, and Hisoka knew that he was seeing Tatsumi at last, the exposed soul beneath the façade.'

First Lesson's Free, by Atalan. Tsuzuki/Watari, R. This fic is basically a PWP, and it features such wonderfully awkward smut and many touching moments, just how I like it. It's Watari's first time, and he's very nervous, but Tsuzuki's there to guide and reassure him. Mostly. Quote: '"You're probably my best friend, you know that?" Tsuzuki said, surprising himself.'

Of Rivers and Crossings, by Olympia. Muraki-centric, with Oriya and Ukyou, R. Darkfic. This story is like a play on A Christmas Carole, but as with any Muraki stories there's always a sharp edge to it. It's well executed for making him a sympathetic character, and not overly played. Also, the writing is pretty. Quote: ""Like... sex." Hurried, frantic, desperate sex. Ukyou and sex. It was... He finished his drink. "So, she's happy," he managed to say, even though his throat burned and his smile looked more like a grimace.'

Peacemaker Kurogane recommendations

Snowman, by canis_m. Hijikata/Okita, PG. This is so adorable, and really captures the married-ness of the pairing. Established relationship, light-hearted, with a fantastic Hijikata who is so blatantly fretting over Souji, although he tries to be annoyed. Quote: 'Scowling, Hijikata snaked a hand out of the blankets to grasp at his clothes. It had probably snowed, and he would bet his sword that Souji wasn't dressed properly for the weather--had in fact probably already caught a chill, which would trigger one of those coughing bouts, which would set them both on edge--'

Cranes in Winter, by Liriaen. Hijikata/Okita, R. Hurt/comfort. She'd probably blush if she knew I was putting this up on my rec page, but I have to say Liriaen is one of my favourite writers out there; easily in my top 5, and that spans over 4 years in fandom. If I could pack as many intricacies, emotions and amazing word choices into a sentence as her, then I'd be set for the rest of my fannish life. *g* This fic is beyond gorgeous - rich and poignant, vivid and lush. It broke my heart and put it back together, just how I like it! Quote: 'He leans into Toshizou and lets himself be ushered up the walk and through a low wooden door. Bless the Seven Lucky Gods it isn't quite as low as a real tea pavilion's - although it would be funny to watch Toshizou squeeze his bulk through there, like Mount Fuji crouching under a torii gate.'
