"This is Reality calling, Mr Potter. Time to stop daydreaming about Sirius Black and get down to some hard-core cauldron cleaning."

James quickly glanced at the door to the Potions Master's office, hoping he hadn't just heard that. Once sure the coast was clear he fished in his school bag and brought out a small rounded mirror.

"Hello." Sirius was grinning at him from the surface. "Do you come here often?" He winked.

"Shut up!" James whispered. "Or I'll be in even more trouble."

Sirius laughed and James saw him run his fingers through his hair. It fell back exactly how it had been before and his face grew serious. "Do you want me to get Snivellus for this, Prongs?" he said. "I will, you know. For you. Just say the word."

James looked towards the door again, then back at Sirius. He leaned a bit closer to the mirror and spoke in a hushed tone. "Snape can wait. We'll think of something extra special for him."

"That we will." It was pretty obvious Sirius was already devising ways to get back at the Slytherin for landing James in detention. "It's weird, isn't it?" Sirius added "You stuck down there in the cold, decaying dungeons serving detention while I'm up here in the lovely warm tower, lounging around the dorm room while Moony and Wormtail wait on me like slaves. I think Pete needs to work on his obedience, though. He flat out refused to run down to Hogsmeade and pick me up a six pack of beer and a prostitute."

James snorted, feeling cheered by Sirius's presence. That is, until he heard the scrape of chair legs against stone in the adjoining room.

"Oh shit, I've got to go."

Sirius's leaned in closer until all James could see of him was two very wide grey eyes, a nose and a soft looking mouth. "All right, mate, but I'll tell you what," he smirked, "I'll warm your bed up for you, for when you get back." With that, Sirius's face started to fade as the mirror's reflection clouded over. James stuffed it back into his bag, picked up the dirty wash cloth and set back to work on the cauldron. His heart was racing.

Detention seemed to move even more slowly after that and he couldn't seem to stop checking his watch.
